What the papers say?

Here is what some of the UK’s top newspapers have said about Northumbria.

Placed in the ‘First Division’ of UK Universities.
Daily Telegraph (2001, 2002, 2003)

Northumbria is always one of the highest ranked modern universities in our league tables.  This success has been achieved through good teaching assessments.  No subject has scored less than 20/24 points in assessments during the past 7 years.
The Sunday Times (2003)

Teaching quality assessments score us at an average of 22.1, placing us in the same league as the University of Edinburgh and University College, London .

Great Learning

Northumbria University has an international reputation for delivering first class teaching, backed up by research and consultancy expertise.  The excellence of our course is endorsed by the national Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).  QAA audits of the University’s teaching and learning have awarded outstanding results in sixteen of its subject areas.  Marked out of a maximum of 24 points, no subject area has been awarded less than 20, and this puts Northumbria among the UK’s leading universities for teaching.

Great Experience
Newcastle, renowned as a student city (one-in-six of the population is a student), is ‘regarded as one of the 10 most creative cities in the world’ ( The Sunday Time , 2003) as well as one of the ‘new cultural Meccas’ to rival New York, Milan and Paris.

Great Future

Northumbria’s courses are designed to offer students from the UK and overseas real skills for the real job market.  In fact, Northumbria graduates get good jobs with 95% either employed or having entered study or training 6 months after graduation.

University Programmes

Northumbria offers approximately 500 study programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, both full- and part-time, to around 24,000 students.  This year we have enrolled over 3,000 individuals from countries outside the UK.
