FAQ related to Living in UK |
| |
| Q1: |
When should I arrange my flight to UK, and where to?
|
| Ans.: |
As soon as you have a place on your course, your entry clearance (visa) and you have confirmed accommodation, you should arrange your flight to the UK. London is the commonest venue but if your university is located in the northern part of the British Isle, you may choose to land at Newcastle International Airport. |
| |
|
| Q2: |
What is the day to day expense in UK?
|
| Ans.: |
Day to day living costs vary from one individual to another, but you should ensure that you are fully able to support yourself in the UK, which may be more expensive than in HK. You should avoid trying to live too cheaply and you should not rely on part-time earnings as a source of income. As a student, you have to plan for your accommodation rental, lighting, food and travel. Prices vary according to where you live. In general, the cost of living is higher as you live closer to London, i.e. the mid-land is in general less expensive than the south. It also depends on where you shop within your living area and what your requirements are. |
| |
|
| Q3: |
How do I bring my money to UK for my study and my daily living? |
| Ans.: |
Opening a bank account - please click here for detail.
Please note: you may only get a bank letter from your School after you have enrolled. You should ensure that you have sufficient cash to allow for any delays in setting up your bank account. |
| |
|
| Q4: |
What should I do if I am sick in UK? |
| Ans.: |
University may possess an in-house clinic and you can visit doctors there if necessary. If you are coming to the UK for a course of six months or more, you will not have to pay for your medical treatment / consultation under the National Health Scheme of UK. You may have to pay for medicines prescribed by your doctor or hospital. You may also have to pay for dental treatment and visits to an optician. Private treatment is also available, but may be expensive. To find out more about the Health Service in the UK, please visit the National Health Service website and the UKCOSA website. |
